Southsea House of English provides a series of specialist language courses tailored to meet your specific academic or professional needs. Our extensive experience within these areas ensures that you receive the best English language preparation to meet your individual requirements. Our unique and personalised service is offered on a one to one or small group basis and the below specialist courses are available throughout the year to students of all ages. The duration of all our courses depends on the individual requirements of each student and can be tailored to suit your needs and availability.
As a student at Southsea House of English you will benefit from total immersion in the English language throughout the duration of your stay. Aside from class based lessons, you will have the opportunity to practice your English as often as you wish as you will be part of English family life so will benefit from authentic and relevant language as well as cultural interaction.
You will receive 15 hours per week of classroom based teaching (including breaks), tailored to your requirements and using a variety of teaching methods to ensure that lessons are engaging, flexible and relaxed. Together we will decide what your needs are and work out a suitable programme of lessons to develop your learning. You will also receive homework that will reinforce what you have learned during classroom lessons.
Classroom lessons take place on weekday mornings, leaving the afternoon to explore the local area and should you wish, take part in English family life. At weekends, we will visit popular attractions which in the past have included trips to London, Brighton, Arundel, Oxford, Bournemouth, the New Forest and many of the local attractions within our beautiful city.

The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is the world's most popular English Language test for Higher Education and global migration. It is required for entry into British, Australian and many American Universities and colleges. This intensive course teaches all four components of the English Language (Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking) and provide you with the essential skills and techniques necessary to obtain the level required.
Due to our one to one or small class sizes and our extensive knowledge and experience of IELTS, we have a 100% success rate to date in ensuring that our students achieve their IELTS goals.
Whether you wish to study IELTS Academic or IELTS General, as one of our students you will receive individually tailored tuition that focusses on language development and accuracy whilst simultaneously learning the essential techniques necessary to obtain the grade you need. Our students are able to sit their IELTS exam here in Portsmouth at a British Council approved test centre.
